Chord Notation

When I post the lyrics and chords to a song, I just put the chords at the end of the line where they belong. For example, here is the first line of a song with the chords:

Sitting by the creek today I felt my spirits rise            G   B7   C   D7

There are other ways to do it, of course. The most common is to put the chords above the words to show where the chord changes happen. That method takes a lot of space, and very often the chords end up moving to the wrong positions when there is some kind of formatting change. So I use my own method. This means that if you want to play the song, you’ll have to figure out where the chord changes are… but I’m confident you can do it!

In keeping with this minimalist approach, I only show the chords the first time they appear. So if each verse has the same chords, I only show the chords once. If there is a chorus or bridge with different chords, I will show them, again just the first time. Again, I’m sure you will figure it out!
